Day 3: Justin

Today on 3/18 we started the day with a guessing game.  The game objective was to guess the game the music was from, the year the song was used and guess what device it was played on.  The teacher played music where we guessed the items above.  A few students were good at this game.  After this we received two assignments.  The first assignment was to make background music and noise effects for the Pony Express game.   The noise effects were used when picking up letters in the game.  The sound I chose was BOOM using a dramatic effect. The background music we created using multiple instruments on soundtrap.  This was my favorite part.  The second assignment was an analysis sheet about picking a song and describing the topics of the music.  The topics were tempo, rhythm, dynamic, texture, instruments and pitch.

  • Tempo means beats per minute

  • Rhythm means speed of notes related to tempo

  • Dynamic means loud versus quite

  • Texture means how much things is going on at the same times

  • Instrument means what instruments are playing

  • Pitch means low versus high, conjunct versus disjunct and major versus minor

We also discussed how the song fits the game.  I chose Maharaja Island Sound to fit Blocks Fruit because it's a calming song to match the peaceful island.

After lunch we learned about the form of a song which includes structure, capitalization, apostrophe usage, and video game loops.  Examples we discussed were orchestral horns playing in the background or orchestral strings playing epic tunes with long rhythms.

At the end of the day we played a game called Champion Islands.  The point of the game was to beat the teacher's record and we succeeded.
